Assessment Process
Scope Definition & Boundary Mapping
We begin with a rigorous scoping exercise to identify all systems, processes, and people that store, process, or transmit cardholder data — then establish defensible boundaries with documented network diagrams and data-flow analysis.
Gap Assessment & Technical Testing
Our QSA conducts a structured gap assessment across all 12 PCI DSS requirement domains — reviewing configurations, policies, and controls — followed by penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and segmentation validation against the current PCI DSS v4.0.1 standard.
Remediation & Evidence Collection
Findings are documented and tracked in real time. Your team works through identified gaps while our QSA provides direct remediation guidance and collects the final body of evidence required to support each compliant control.
Retesting & Assessment Reporting
Retest remediated controls and complete the applicable ROC and AOC with the assessed scope, evidence and actual compliance results. Agree the reporting schedule and required signatories as part of the engagement.
Assessment Route
Do you need a
full assessment?
Start with the evidence requested by your acquirer, payment brand or customer. They determine the accepted validation route. A transaction count or industry label alone does not establish whether you need a ROC or qualify for an SAQ.

Engagement Scope
Everything included.
No hidden line items.
Formal Deliverables
How the Engagement Runs
Dedicated audit coordinator keeping your team on schedule from kickoff to AOC
Aggressive scope reduction before testing begins — segmentation and tokenisation strategies included
Pre-audit consulting so you know exactly what evidence and controls are needed to pass
Project management platform for task assignment, requirement-linked messaging, and progress tracking
Why 443 Labs
Agree scope before work begins.
Clear assessment and testing boundaries.
Define the payment channels, locations, systems, reporting route and testing activities in the engagement. Confirm fees, retesting coverage and how scope changes will be handled before kickoff.
Your assessor doesn't rotate.
Dedicated QSA from kickoff through AOC.
The QSA who scopes your engagement is the QSA who signs your ROC. No bait-and-switch staffing, no mid-assessment handoffs to a junior analyst.
Findings have a clear next step.
Remediation guidance and evidence review.
For each gap, agree an owner, corrective action and evidence needed for retesting. Your team implements the changes; the assessor validates the result and records the actual compliance status.
We shrink your CDE before we test it.
Scope reduction from day one.
Before any testing begins, we identify segmentation opportunities, tokenisation strategies, and third-party service offloading that reduce both your compliance burden and your breach surface.
Project Management
Stay on schedule.
Track every milestone.
443 Labs provides a project management tool that keeps your team aligned on assessment milestones, evidence requests and remediation work from kickoff through reporting.

Plan your PCI DSS assessment
For the first scoping discussion, prepare a payment-flow and network diagram, an inventory of relevant systems and locations, your provider responsibilities, previous assessment and testing reports, and the requesting party’s deadline. Identify who owns technical controls, policies and evidence.
Cost and timing depend on scope, evidence readiness, testing coverage and remediation. Agree those assumptions before setting a completion date. Use the guides below to prepare, or request a scoped QSA assessment discussion.
Our listed QSA company is AUDITTRAIL 443LABS CYBERSECURITY SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED. PCI SSC lists CEMEA and Asia Pacific as its servicing markets. Verify our company and current servicing markets in the PCI SSC directory.

Compliance validation uses official ROC, SAQ and AOC documents. A certificate alone does not replace them. Read PCI SSC guidance on compliance documentation. Your acquirer or payment brand determines validation and reporting requirements; the assessor validates and documents scope and applicability. See PCI SSC guidance on assessment scope.
Common Questions
What does QSA mean in PCI DSS?
QSA means Qualified Security Assessor. PCI SSC qualifies QSA companies and their assessor employees to assess adherence to PCI DSS. A QSA reviews your payment environment, scope, controls and evidence, and documents the assessment results. Verify the company’s current qualification and servicing markets in the PCI SSC directory before an engagement.
What is the difference between a QSA assessment and an ASV scan?
A QSA assessment evaluates the applicable PCI DSS requirements across the assessed environment. An Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) performs external vulnerability scans for the ASV scanning requirement. A passing ASV scan is one part of the evidence and does not establish overall PCI DSS compliance. 443 Labs coordinates ASV scans through an ASV partner.
Who requires a PCI DSS Level 1 assessment?
Payment brands and acquirers define merchant and service-provider validation requirements. A Level 1 assessment generally requires a Report on Compliance (ROC), but thresholds and additional triggers vary by program. Confirm your required validation route with the party requesting compliance evidence.
What is the difference between an ROC and an SAQ?
A Report on Compliance (ROC) documents a detailed PCI DSS assessment. A Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) is a validation tool for eligible merchants or service providers. Eligibility depends on the payment environment and the applicable questionnaire, while payment brands and acquirers determine the reporting route.
How long does a PCI DSS assessment typically take?
The timeline depends on the complexity of your cardholder data environment (CDE), the number of in-scope systems, evidence readiness and remediation work. Agree a schedule after scoping; an assessment estimate is not a guarantee of compliant results or completion by a fixed date.
What deliverables do we receive at the end of the assessment?
For a ROC engagement, deliverables include the Report on Compliance and applicable Attestation of Compliance, recording the assessed scope and actual results. Agree testing reports and remediation support in the engagement scope. Complete the required entity and assessor signatories using the official AOC; eligible SAQ engagements use the applicable SAQ and AOC instead.
Can 443 Labs help us reduce our PCI DSS scope?
Yes. Scope reduction is one of the highest-value activities in any PCI DSS programme. Our QSAs work with you during the scoping phase to identify segmentation opportunities, tokenisation strategies, and third-party service offloading that reduce both your compliance burden and breach risk.
What happens if we fail the initial assessment?
We document the gap, agree remediation actions with your team, and retest affected controls. Compensating controls are available only when the standard’s conditions are met and the assessor validates them; they are not an automatic alternative to remediation. The final assessment records the actual compliance status.
