Testing Methodology
Define Scope & Application Reconnaissance
Identify in-scope apps, platforms (Android/iOS), environments, and testing depth. Analyse application architecture, permissions, components, and enumerate sensitive operations and data flows aligned to OWASP MASVS.
Static & Dynamic Analysis
Static analysis: binary decompilation (APK/IPA), hardcoded secret detection, cryptographic review, and manifest analysis. Dynamic analysis: runtime API interception, certificate pinning bypass, biometric bypass, IPC testing, and sensitive data logging.
Vulnerability Identification & Exploitation
Systematically test authentication, authorisation, local data storage, network communication, platform-specific issues, and backend API interaction. Safely exploit identified vulnerabilities to confirm real-world impact and severity.
Reporting, Remediation & Retest
Provide detailed findings with platform-specific fix recommendations (Swift/Kotlin code examples). Validate remediation of identified issues and issue a final cleared report suitable for compliance submission.

Why 443 Labs
The mobile pentest difference that finds what others miss.
True Mobile Testing, Not API Scanning
We test the actual mobile application binary on real devices — static analysis, runtime testing, certificate pinning bypass. Running your API scanner against the backend is not a mobile pentest.
Both Platforms, One Engagement
Android and iOS are tested in a single engagement with platform-specific methodologies. You get independent coverage of APK decompilation and IPA binary analysis — not a single platform with assumptions.
Certificate Pinning Bypass Included
Bypassing certificate pinning (via Frida/Objection) is included in every engagement. Without this, a significant portion of API communication from the mobile client remains invisible and untested.
Platform-Specific Remediation
Remediation guidance includes Swift and Kotlin/Java code examples. Your mobile developers receive actionable, platform-specific fixes — not generic security advice copied from an OWASP page.
Not Sure Where to Start
We'll scope your mobile pentest and confirm what testing depth you need.
Whether you're testing a consumer app, a mobile banking platform, or an enterprise application — our testers will define the right scope and approach for your platform, technology stack, and compliance requirements.

Common Questions
What platforms do you test?
We test both Android (APK) and iOS (IPA) applications — native, hybrid (React Native, Flutter, Xamarin), and web-based mobile apps. Testing is conducted on real devices and emulators as appropriate to the application type.
Do you perform static binary analysis?
Yes. Our static analysis includes APK decompilation (JADX, apktool), IPA binary analysis, manifest review, entitlements review, and identification of hardcoded secrets, insecure APIs, and weak cryptographic implementations.
Can you bypass certificate pinning?
Yes. Our testers routinely bypass certificate pinning implementations to test API communication. This is critical for identifying insecure API handling that is otherwise masked by pinning.
How long does a mobile app pentest take?
A standard single-platform mobile app pentest runs 1–2 weeks. Dual-platform (Android + iOS) engagements take 2–3 weeks. Complex applications with deep backend API scope may require extended engagements.
Do you test the backend APIs separately?
Our mobile app pentest includes testing of the API endpoints exercised by the mobile client. If full API penetration testing is required (all endpoints, not just mobile client-exercised ones), a separate API Pentest engagement is recommended.
