Audit Process
Asset Inventory & Configuration Collection
We collect running and startup configurations from all in-scope network devices — firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers — using read-only access, and build a complete baseline inventory.
Rule & Policy Analysis
Firewall ruleset analysis identifies overly permissive rules, shadow rules, any-any policies, redundant rules, and stale ACLs. Routing configurations are reviewed for BGP/OSPF authentication, route filtering, and unnecessary redistribution.
Hardening Benchmark Assessment
All device configurations are assessed against applicable CIS Benchmarks, vendor hardening guides (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Juniper), and any regulatory requirements (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2) applicable to the environment.
Remediation Report Delivery
A device-by-device audit report is produced with specific configuration remediation commands — not just conceptual guidance. Critical and high-risk findings are validated after remediation at no additional charge.

Why 443 Labs
The config audit difference that actually fixes network risk.
Specific CLI Commands, Not Generic Guidance
Every finding includes the exact CLI commands to remediate the issue — copy-paste ready for your network engineers. No conceptual advice, no vendor documentation links, no extra work for your team.
All Major Vendors Covered
Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Palo Alto PAN-OS, Fortinet FortiGate, Juniper JunOS, Check Point — all assessed in a single engagement against CIS Level 2 benchmarks and vendor hardening guides.
Shadow Rule and Stale ACL Detection
Manual rule analysis identifies shadowed rules, stale ACLs, and any-any policies that automated tools miss. These are the configuration gaps that create bypass opportunities invisible to scanner-only reviews.
Compliance Evidence Built In
PCI DSS Requirement 1.3 requires documented firewall rule reviews every six months. Our report produces audit-ready evidence for your QSA — saving you the effort of reformatting findings at assessment time.
Not Sure Where to Start
We'll scope your config audit and confirm which benchmarks apply.
Whether you're auditing a single firewall platform or a complex multi-vendor environment — our network security engineers will confirm scope, collect configurations, and deliver CLI-ready findings on time.
Device Coverage
Common Questions
What devices are covered in a network config audit?
A standard network config audit covers firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers. Extended scope can include wireless access points, VPN concentrators, SD-WAN devices, and network-attached security appliances.
What benchmark does 443 Labs use for config audits?
We align to CIS Benchmarks for all major vendors (Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Palo Alto PAN-OS, Fortinet FortiGate, Juniper JunOS, Check Point) plus vendor-specific hardening guides and any applicable regulatory requirements.
Do you need console access to conduct the audit?
We require read-only configuration access — either via direct connection, secure configuration export, or validated configuration snapshots. No write access to devices is required.
How does this relate to PCI DSS Requirement 1.3?
PCI DSS Requirement 1.3 requires that network access controls are documented and reviewed at least every six months. Our network config audit provides the technical review evidence required, including firewall rule review documentation.
Can you review cloud-native network controls (AWS Security Groups, Azure NSGs)?
Yes. Our cloud network config audit covers AWS Security Groups, NACLs, Azure NSGs, GCP VPC Firewall Rules, and cloud WAF configurations as part of a combined on-premises + cloud network audit.
